On being a black woman...

“It became apparent to me within the industry of fitness that I was the minority when it came to being in corporate spaces and the ‘influencer’ space. I take pride in being a woman of colour and advocate for inclusivity and diversity. Even if I’ve found myself feeling uncomfortable being in spaces where I am the minority, I turn that discomfort into my super-power by allowing it to encourage me to be the representation. I show up and be myself, and my intention is to inspire and motivate other women and young people of colour to be proud of their authentic self. That’s where we create growth within ourselves, to expand our potential worldwide. What drives me the most is the ability to fulfil the female legacy of not just my late Grandmother, but all the women before her and those yet to come. I feel privileged to be recognised as a successful black woman and I work hard to empower others to create the successful life they deserve to.”

On being a black woman...

“Showing up for myself and my community unapologetically especially within the UK fitness industry which still lacks diversity so making sure that when working with brands, for example, I advocate for better representation. I love to bring women in our community together and create a space where they feel comfortable and confident to exercise. “

Founder NX Coaching

I started my professional life as an actor and singer, however in most recent years I founded my health and wellbeing coaching company NX Coaching.

Helping people, specifically women to take back control of their bodies, minds, physical and mental health and harnessing their lifestyle with food and exercise, all whilst assisting through chronic disease, fertility and hormonal challenges.

Whilst working as an actor I’ve managed to scale my business over the last two and a half years and during the business’s infancy, I also won a Best Supporting Female Actress in a Musical Award at the Black British Theatre Awards in 2022, for my performance in the new musical Domitius. I’ve been so lucky to have two passions that compliment each other so well, and I hope to use all the skills I continue to acquire to further support my teams, my clients and the people around me.

On being a black woman...

“Being a black woman means to me – Even though the world says the odds are stacked against me, I can do anything I put my mind to, and it’s my job to show fellow black women they can too.”

Lisa Nestor is a vegan, wife, and mother of two who runs her own hugely successful health and well-being business. Like many people, during the lockdown she took a long hard look at herself and decided to do something different.

“I wanted to take control over what I did in my life and in the process, I wanted to help others too.”

Lisa has been passionate about health and fitness for as long as she could remember and has always wanted to be the fittest and healthiest she could be. After her husband was diagnosed with cancer, she became much more aware of her own mortality, food and wellbeing became her obsession.

As a qualified YMCA Level 3 personal trainer, Lisa brings expertise, energy, and compassion to her mission. Her confidence and experience grew further through her involvement [with seasoned professionals] on the popular pandemic online talk-show #NoJoke.

On being a black woman...

“Being a Black woman means striving to be the best I can be, in spite of all the challenges. It means continuing to show up, to keep striving, and to embody strength, softness, kindness, and vulnerability. Most of all, it means staying true to myself and embracing all that I am.”

Jahreen Wilson

Fitness Nominee
Jahreen wilson

PowerWave
Coach

My name is Jahreen Wilson, a 47-year-old woman who has learned that strength is born through life’s challenges. Growing up, I watched my mother, a single parent, embody what it means to be a strong Black woman. Her resilience shaped me, and as a young girl, I stepped in to help raise my younger brother, learning early on the importance of responsibility and love.

Life has tested me in many ways. Losing my mother at the young age of 58 was one of my hardest battles, and it brought with it struggles with depression and anxiety. But through it all, I’ve held onto an unwavering passion for life. I’ve come to understand that challenges don’t define us—our perseverance and the way we rise from them do.

At 31, I embarked on a fitness journey that changed my life. Starting later than most didn’t stop me; in fact, it fueled me. Fitness became more than a hobby—it became my lifeline and my calling. Over three years ago, I took this passion further and qualified as a PowerWave coach. Now, I am dedicated to showing women of all ages, shapes, and sizes that it’s never too late to become the best version of themselves.

On being a black woman...

“To be a Black woman is to embody resilience, power, and grace in the face of both visible and unseen challenges. It is to carry the weight of history while forging paths for future generations, often in spaces where our presence has been minimized or erased. As MzGymBunny, I have built my life around defying limitations, embracing my authentic self, and inspiring others to do the same. This nomination is not just about me—it’s about celebrating the strength, beauty, and complexity of all Black women.”
